Gender is a construction made up by humans for humans reinforced by social conventions that identify women as feminine and men as masculine with the belief that you can’t be both. Society tells us that if we have the biological sex of a female, we must identify as a woman. If we have the biological sex of a male, we must identify as man. One’s biological sex and gender are not synonymous. This sculpture critiques social conventions and constructions by using materials from nature made naturally with man-made imagery and materials like the use of makeup and conventions of how it should look. In the form of a mask that completely covers the facial features, we are left with one’s body and the form covering their face.
