Exploring The Pandemic Sculpture2022

With this project, I found myself in a painstaking process of constantly picking up used face masks and sanitizing them thoroughly. In 2019, the global pandemic, COVID-19 would change modern living exponentially. For this project, I focused on the amount of waste that disposable masks have on our environment. I designed a wave constructed with only face masks found in my environment to show how many there were in such a small contained area: a college campus. I paired the piece with an audio clip that I made by layering various cityscape sounds, ocean sounds, and self-recorded audio from a garbage truck and passing cars, I created an environment for my sculpture so my audience could participate in a time of reflection.
