Belonging in Nature, Soft Sculpture2022

Created from scrap wood and various leftover fabrics from previous projects, this sculpture depicts a staircase made from malleable loose materials commenting on the sturdiness construction of stairs. I designed something that is usually known to be well-enforced, dependable, and well-fitted for the space in which it exists however, I wanted to create something quite the opposite. Rather than focusing on the foundation of the stairs, I wanted to focus on the colors and interaction of materials that make up the stairs. By combining elements from nature and man-made materials, this piece lives in nature as if it belongs. It is fragile much like leaves, old trees, and animal homes, yet sturdy enough to hold specific creatures of nature not including humans.
